Signed up a while back.

Seems like they are going with an EVE style skill system which lets you train skills even when you are offline.

They are rolling out beta keys at the moment, they were at E3 and the game is looking absolutely amazing.

They are selling beta access now; http://www.planetside2.com/alpha-squad

Comes with instant access to beta, some Sony rockmonies and some other in game things.
