Looks like you've got bi-wire ont he speakers which is nice, but seriously you should try to tidy up those cables it's making a nice setup look rubbish.

If you can afford the kit you must be able to afford either a better av stand or some trunking!

What make are your amps?

Amps are Cyrus XPA's .. they're neat because they auto-power on/off. The DVD is really good quality for movie and CD playback but the remote is quite frustrating but that may be a fault on the unit or the player .. have to get it checked out at some point.

The wires are a bit tidier now, and none are running along the floor. That pic was taken just after initial setup and sound check. The cables behind the stand are a pain as there's lots of them, I could get a better stand (lower .. that's an old hifi stand) but then I'd have to move the TV down the wall and that's just not going to happen in a hurry !

As many of the wires as possible are in the wall but everything still hangs out the back of the wall or the amps / decoder at some point :?

The fronts are bi-wired and bi-amped ... the centre is technically the same, using the two halves of one amp to achieve the same effect.

When the lights are off you can't see the wires ... all movies should be watched in the dark anyway

If I get a chance I'll take some pics of how it looks atm and round the back of the rack.

Wires are a big problem in any nice cinema set up, I just have a whacking great stand to hide all mine, looks nicer but access to the back to change or add anything is a big pain.

I've got Monitor Audio RS6s for the front, RSFXs for the rears and the amp is a Yamaha 457. Amp is very good but not new enough to do HD audio, frankly I don't think it will make a big enough difference to warrant changing it.

TV is a Samsung LE40M87 BDX but it's got that fucking annoying firmware problem where it won't accept 1080P over VGA even though it is supposed to, which means the media centre I've got plugged into it has to use an HDMI slot for now (not enough of them). Going to call Samsung out on Monday.

Seeing stuff like Flight Simulator at 1920X1080 on a big screen is very fucking lol.

Sounds like a sweet setup. You using a HD DVD player ?

My speakers are Linn Keilidh's .. very picky about amp matching but fucking brilliant at music and decent quality movie soundtrack encoding.

TV is Sony 52X3500 .. suffers a little with motion blurring very occasionally (like most LCD's do) but overall the picture and features are fantastic !

Not got around to using the VGA input yet but the XBox is pretty impressive with things like Assassins Creed.

You got it in the main room or loft etc ? Mine's in a converted outhouse building down the end of the garden so don't get down there as much as I should :/

Why do you guys need such high powered amps?
You aren't likely to ever put the volume up past 25% surely?

Villa my setup is like ultra cheap compared to Nights(and Zim's really), and I can't go to half volume without literally deafening myself or knocking the house down.

...So the answer is, they don't, it's just nice^^

Oh I see.
Is it like the difference between wearing clothes from Next, and clothes by Dolce & Gabbana - where clothes from Next are fine, but you wear Dolce & Gabbana if you want to throw your money away and have people point & laugh at you for trying to show off how much money you have because you are a cunt who has his life's priorities wrong - would that be more or less what you are trying to say?

It's more about having the features and connections. I have the same amp Calix has but have it in my bedroom, it's fine for bedroom use but doesn't have enough features or, crucially, connections to have in my lounge. I won't go into great detail but I have 7 devices connected 4 of which are by optical, 1 using a multi channel input and the rest using standard phono plugs.

To get an amp that can handle that many sources you have no choice but to spend a bit of money. The sound quality is immense when watching movies etc, and I'm lucky to not have any neighbours within 0.5km so I can enjoy it as loud as I want.

Yeah Night I've got a PS3, HD-DVD player, Xbox, Sky HD, Wii and an HTPC all hooked up.

Villa you are the most bitter, twisted, jealous individual I have ever known in my life. I still love you though, someone has to.

Villa do you wear a shirt to work everyday?

If so, are your shirts 5 quid from primark or 30 quid from a proper store?

Can you feel the difference in quality?

Why are some movies better at the cinema than watching the cam release online?

Its quality and features. Also, longevity.

Spend a lot on sound stuff and it will last a long time. Goodspeakers will outlast ur pc and prob also your car.

Im not a rich fuck like some in here but i also prefer to spend a bit more on quality and have it last me. Thats why i dont buy shitty stuff!

Tecnical stuff isnt the same as clothes. Do you buy pc from pc world or somewhere else?

Ahh sweet .. I was thinking about a PS3 for the blu-ray movies but already have XBox, Wii and PS2. Wii is a pain as there's no HD output. Is there a digital co-axial output on the PS3 or is it optical only ?

Currently looking for a 15m VGA lead but might not bother as am not down in the den enough for it to be worth hooking up the PC, might do it later though just for showing off and shit when ppl come round ... and to make Villa unhappy ofc.

@Villa: Yes you can hear/feel the difference. My den is isolated from house / neighbours so the volume frequently gets up to 75%+ and when it does, because the equipment is good, it doesn't distort like a mofo and sound like something homemade from Tandy.

I used to have a budget all in one system in the lounge, think it cost £280, and it was perfectly good for everyday movie watching and hooking up a limited number of inputs (Sky, PS2 etc).

Don't remember the exact model but it was something like this:

http://www.ciao.co.uk/Sony_SONY_DAVSR1__6339047

If your ears can tell the difference, or you just like spending your spare money on gadgets and technical shit .. then you're more likely to start going upmarket to Integrated Amps then on to separates then on to re-mortgaging and divorce.

Luckily I got my PS3 free from work, so it's nice to have the ability to play Blu-Rays, supposed to be one of the best players anyway thanks to the constant updates available. Audio out is either through HDMI or Optical yes, no coax.

Also Wii has component out which gives a 480P signal which looks decentish on an HD screen but admittedly shit compared to Xbox etc, don't know if you've tried that.
