So, a couple of weeks after release and things are starting to stabalize.
A few figures to impress you random internet people;
I broke a million plays in 8 days.
I broke 2 million in 14.
So far I have actually received (and almost spent lolz) $2,250
In my earnings accounts from the various monotization methods I have earned an additional $5000
I'm also going to win the monthly contest my sponsors run for another $1500
I'm negotiating the sale of 4 non-exclusive licenses at $1000 each
My earnings are at a pretty steady average of $300 a day. With a peak of about $600 and a low of $200
I'm also entered into another competition with a grand prize of $5000
Rather than listing figures to impress, it's simply to share my amazement at just how much money there is in flash games. This time last year I was making Defender for the pure fun of it, earning a whopping $0
I am ofc working on the next version already, as well as prototyping another idea I have.
I had to cut so many of my ideas out of Protector because I needed to make the release soon or else I would starve.
I spent as much time making Defender and Protector combined as I did scripting Legacy 25.
Casual gaming is a booming market, growing every day. With no costs other than time you can earn thousands of dollarz. Unlike other game development options, in this case you retain full copyright and IP ownership because all you're selling is sponsorship and licensing.
You also have 100% creative freedom to develop your own designs rather than slaving away on some other guy's ideas for minimal credit.
Flash is also easy to learn, I've never been on a course and I've never read a book on the subject. I got where I am today by looking stuff up on the internets and fiddling around with example code to see what happens.
