I FEEL THE NEED...THE NEED...FOR SPEED.
Anyway, heh.
I dunno, agreed alot of it is due to publicity, but surely its better them doing this than doing..nothing? Like Nox said, if this is the first of a series of events, it could be groundbreaking. Then again, the next WoW expansion is out this year so I guess protests will take a small break then.

Yeah been looking at this war on scientology since it began in december
Pretty cool stuff.
They had their "raids" outside every schientology centet across the world from Australia to Alaska.
Nice one from an organisation with no leader or central command going on.
There will only be one outcome from this and it's history in the making. (doesnt seem that epic though... not yet anyhow)
The outcome will either be the complete destruction of Scientology or vice versa.

pro at everything except being pro
They're a bunch of fucking cowards. Seriously, I don't even want to read about them, they're just a new breed of terrorist. Of all the things to hi-jack, why scientology?
Sure it has its bad points like anything else, like any other religion. But amongst all the oddities and outrageous claims, scientologists still do some good - even if they are trying to preach to the weak, they're not evil. What makes a bunch of internet nerds who are too afraid to do something more substantial rather than essentially jump on a bandwagon think they have any leverage over even an inconsistent religion.
Don't get me wrong, I also think scientology is a joke, but it's no real threat. The people who follow it may be deluded (again, that's subjective) but it's a free world and they can believe what they like. They still have a choice.
Nox you said yourself you are considering attending the next raid, don't you think there are thousands out there like yourself who have just been hypnotised by this anti-scientology propaganda, I fail to believe that you have much genuine interest or contempt for scientology prior to looking into this subject from what is obviously a very biased angle. While I believe you research reasonably thoroughly, it's still fuelled by a distaste, and I doubt many others are quite so ambient as yourself.
The world doesn't need any more ill-informed have a go heroes 'fighting for a cause' that is of little consequence. The video showed what appeared to be several easily influenced youths who are probably more excited to be in the presence of (anonymous) INTERNET LEGENDS than actually fighting for something they believe in. What kind of protest/movement is that? It's a sham. To then market themselves as some kind of freedom fighters, as if they are battling an evil dictatorship and tyrannous overlord is laughable.
It's an interesting concept, but carries little to no weight unless they do something worthwhile, not just pick on an easy target already under fire the world over.
The only redeeming feature of this video is the soundtrack. 65daysofstatic for the win.

I am fairly indifferent to this, except that it strikes quite a haunting note for modernity. How unbelievably lost we are for a philosophy. On the one hand we have the cult of scientology who, it is suggested, preach to the lost, vulnerable and affluent. Whom, I believe it has been found in a court of law, offer too few benefits of worship to be considered a religion. It's thetical elements are ludicrous at best, from what I've garnered from the few sources to have shed any light on it for me (SomethingAwful.com and South Park) and large parts of it's initial doctrine have been disowned by the religion. It is widely considered to be a complete sham which, stripped to the bare bones, is little but capitalism at it's most deluded and tyrannical.
Then on the other hand, we have Anonymous, a group formed over the internet to unite against Scientology. To sidestep the superficial ideologies of this emblem, it is easy to see the appeal, and I think it was mentioned by Noxin earlier in the thread: the internet has mobilized. I don't think the appeal to those who protested against Scientology is due predominantly to an passionate hatred for the cult so much as it is a talisman for the power of the internet itself. Scientology has, for a long time, been an enemy of those whom affiliate themselves with 'the internet. 4Chan, SA and so on. The statement made isn't 'We are here, we will not tolerate Scientology' so profoundly as it is 'We are here'.
So, what I am fundamentally trying to say, is that we have two organisations which are powerful (one more practically, the other more theoretically) facing off against each other in an attempt to prove which is the more powerful, neither of which has any clear moral or ethical doctrine, both which have elements of nobility and elements of tyranny: each trying to prove to the other that they are the most powerful; neither of which really stands for that much at all.
That's really modern.

Child rape dosent directly harm you either though, so Im assuming that can just go on?Buster wrote:Can't believe i'm gonna say it, but i have to agree with most of what Fatal said.
I have no love for COS but they arn't doing me any harm, so live and let live IMO.
Bit of a major comparision, but you get my drift.

I take your point, but it's a bit wide of the mark.
If i saw someone preaching, whatever the cause or religion they represent, I choose to cross the road and ignore them. If i saw, or knew of anyone carrying out the deeds you elude to i would do everythign in my (linited) power to stop them and bring them to justice ( after they've had a fucking good kicking of course. )
My point being one is something i can choose to ignore, the other is something I can`t ignoe as a right thinking human being.

Of someone elses property yeah.
@ Buster - Yeah ok, awful comparision. Im simply playing Devil's Advocat, I agree as things go its not exactly a burning issue to be fighting with, but the way I look at it, if they didnt get involved in this would they bother fighting anything else? Surely helping in a small way is better than nothing?
However, I think the problem with fighting a religious group is not the power or backing they have, its that your fighting a faith, most of the followers REALLY do believe, I dont see how that can be stopped so easily.
