My friends are trying to get the internet in their flat, there is however one problem, they have no landline. Now the obvious answer is get a phone line installed, but as she is living in rented accomodation, its a lot of money to fork out, when theres no guarentee she will be there longer than 12 months.

Anyway, the landlady is pretty nice and offering to help in anyway she can(except fork out the £130 or whatever is for the installation). She already has the internet, and I was wondering whether it is at all possible to have 2 isps from the one landline, running at the same time? Basically some kind of splitter connected to 2 routers.

At the moment she has a data card, which are fucking shit and expensive, especially with the bullshit limits on them, so I'm trying to find her a solution without having to get the phoneline installed, which seems inevitable.

Wireless network on the existing ADSL line with a router of some sort would be the obvious answer.

One phone line = one ADSL connection

Can't 'split' it or have multiple over the same line, just not possible.

Additional line is about the only option I reckon. But wtf flats without phone lines installed?!?

it should no way be that much to havea new phone line put in. i paid a nominal ammount when i had one put in at my last place, was like £40

id ring BT and speak to them.

Yeah it definitely costs over £100 for a new line, I had one done recently and it cost about that.

Whats the deal with cable then? She did phone BT a few days ago, and they said it'd be 130 or so.

No idea, 2 years since I had my cable setup..and line was already in. Ring Virgin and find out? Tell them you're considering switching from Sky and BT, but won't be doing it if there's a high setup charge.

Yeah if you milk that you'll likely get free setup, you can just get cable purely for internet, it's what I have, you can also opt for a pretty cheap unmetered 2/4mb one I think
