The Best and Worst
This was originally what I posted on UO Hall, but noone replied there, anyway, what do you ultimately think is the Best/Worst thing to be put in game?
There is of course important 'best' things aside from P16, such as skill locks etc.
Best : P16 influx of players
Worst : Item PvP.
In my opinion, P16 had potential, it wasn't perfect and certainly upset the reasonable balance that existed prior to the publish, but it changed the face of Felucca. While there was a lot of negative things about it, it brought about the most fun that there was in Fel. Had that ruleset stayed for longer, the problem with powerscrolls would never have been such a serious issue as people would eventually get the scrolls they require.
AoS completely destroyed the progress made by p16 and perhaps anything thats ever gone before. Regardless of what anyone says, it completely destroyed the PvP Community across every shard. There was indeed new players that replaced most the old that left, but it was a completely different generation and view. It's hard for anyone outside the old generation to see our point of view, as everyone automatically puts us into the Grumpy Vet category and very rarely listens to any valid viewpoints mentioned - what angers me most is people who don't pvp giving their tuppance worth with regards to PvP without any real knowledge of the consequences it may cause, not only that but those that do PvP, but are so completely biased they wont accept comprimise.
To the guy that mentioned statloss removal. I agree entirely, for me it was a kick in the teeth, it pretty much killed off the real fun of PK'ing - at the same time understandble as I'd have quit much sooner had the items been in game with statloss there.
At the moment there is no reason in Pking. Theres no risk and theres no reward. Winning a champion spawn or harrower is good, but its not enough. With factions all but destroyed on almost every shard, O/C non existent, the only form of PvP really, is Red vs Blue.
Unforunatly, the lack of information from the Dev team regarding PvP changes continues to cause an exdous of PvP'ers. Some will return as always, but never have I seen such a game cause players to leave in the numbers they are currently. In my guild's time, never has 90% of members quit or gone in-active, never has my enemies guilds done it at the same time either, we all pretty much agree on one thing. PvP needs a massive facelift, sadly the game does not look like its going in the right direction.

No to U
Nixon I totally understand where you are coming from with your post problem is yuo are arguing with people now that have only played AOS as AOS brought an amazing amount of people into UO
UO is trying to keep people in the game and the only way to do that is to gie the lesser players a way to beat people not sure If I have made any sense whatsoever here but I tryed as always Love Abbarosh
AKA
solid Iron Heart
Athena
Gabrielslefteye

Throw in some punctuation once in a while, and you will probably make more sense.abbarosh wrote:UO is trying to keep people in the game and the only way to do that is to gie the lesser players a way to beat people not sure If I have made any sense whatsoever here but I tryed as always Love Abbarosh

I had a red character back in 1999/2000 before AoS, before Pub16, while statloss was still around, and it didn't bother me much. The only thing I did with my red chracter was sail around the seas looking for unattended scripting fishers and firefield their boats, kill them, and loot all of the maps and bottles. It wasn't PvP, it was PvScript. They never fought back, so I never died in statloss...
I do however have a lot of respect for people who played a red character during these times, and can only imagine how much current gameplay rules upset you. I get upset when people brag about 'owning' somone when they have 5+ artifacts and the person they just 'owned' doesn't have any, and has nowhere near the same level of items that they have...
This game is more based on items thank skill now. Most people will never fight 1v1 any more, and a good number of people never leave a house unless they are flagged on first.

I need to find a pre-aos freeshard I think.

Old School UO was the best thing ever No insurance, PvP was actually skill with the influence of losing Items! None of this *I will insure everything in my backpack so to not lose it!" This includes Papa's Suit 106 LRC 40 LMC with 50+ on each resist and 3 weapons insured on my character; WOW skills with 30 GH and 30 GC and 30 TR; I can run away from how many ganks? and maybe drop a few people in the mean time. o well....

Defiance you say....? Interresting... Is this Pre-AoS/Post UO:R, or is it back before UO:R as well?Winder wrote:Defiance.
Anyway, Items are indeed shit, but theres times and times again ive fought people in LMC 40 MR 6-7-8, 15 SDI suits, with my 33 LMC 6 SDI suit and completely schooled them.
back then, explo + ebolt combos took 3/4 of your mana. You had to be a bit more wise with your spell casting and team work.. I remember running around with a GM swordsman w/ lumberjacking... Halaberds were my favorite!

But lets not wear our rose tinted spectacles, outside of duelling there was always something that was somehow unbeatable or way overpowered in PvP, whether it be 'Jacking+runics, a good series of para blows on a spear, an amazing connection/ping or 43 White Wyrms sicced on your backside.
To be fair I didn't play for 6 years, so if the time before I came and after AoS were different, then I appologise. But as much as AoS destroyed, the decay had already set in (as far as I could see).
I agree though, P16 wasn't for a lot of purists, but it did have a lot of good ideas and actually brought the masses back to Fel. Unfortunately they all chose to sit on the ledge at terra keep hoping for a +20 Magery, and they were all PK'd by a lone red with a poison field

I think both Slamer and myself have teleported up there in the past using an axer, chopping people down one at a time in a line while they struggled in the pfield. I think I managed 6 in a row once, and Slamer might have done 7.
Fun fun fun.
Can't believe I look back at p16 with nostalgia (I used to dislike the dungeon gimping blue noobs with their runic weapons (Hi Tyrion !))- that's how bad UO has been recently

Neil those were the day; everyone looting as fast as they could wouldnt even think about it until it had happened (*Opening a Poison Crate*) then after that opening an explosion crate!! Just pure comedy watching them run to the guards zone asking for a cure and a heal coming back with a new spear in hand and killing them and getting everything back
I came to UO at UO:R and just remembering running around on a newb char iwth newbed weaps and OWNING PEOPLE thought it was great; not into the whole PVM scene when AoS and 6/6 Casting came in and getting completely thrashed *Quit for like 4 months after that* eventually came to the whole PVM scene got to the 4/6 casting and eventually being able to compete but those were fun
