Inspired somewhat by Nixon's Dundee thread..

The missus and I are heading up to Edinburgh for a long weekend in December, and I wondered whether you can give me a nod in the right direction of what to do and what not to bother with.

Things we like :

Pubs
Shopping (her)
Castles & other vestiges of a simpler time
Good food
Not getting 'jibbed' for being English

Any activities you can recommend that would smash the apexes off this typical list of tourist cliche would be more than welcome.

Many thx.

I'll be honest, I'm not really to sure about Edinburgh, it's not really somewhere I've been in the last 10 years to often outside of Easter Road/Tynecastle.

I'll have a scope around though, have a few friends from down that way so they might be able to point me in the right direction.

Will you have a car?

Nah we won't have a car.

I'll have a glance at a few of those things. I'm sure there will be plenty for us to do anyway as it's a popular tourist location.

Cheers for ideas thus far.
