They were bought by Microsoft a while ago. They are working on something called Halo Wars at the moment, a strategy game.

MS is shutting Ensemble down after they finish working on Halo Wars (console RTS).

I thought EA had the monopoly on ruining good games developers.

We all know where its headed anyway.
Companies will be bought and shut down in turn, untill we are left with
"The Computer Company". And their sub-branch "The Games Company".
Oh, and ofc their bitter rivals "The Other Computer Company"

Don't get these confused with the people who make Halo though, that's Bungie of course.
This is the Age of Empires krew so this decision fucking sucks man.

I doubt AoE 3 had much to do with it really. Ensemble has a record of making good games, and probably a bunch of money aswell, for Microsoft.
Maybe it's more about MS changing their direction towards the market that is making Nintendo ridiculous amounts of money atm, casual gaming?

Yeah ofc, they still should have made AoE3 better though:(

Yeah Senji you've hit the nail on the head. Microsoft are making a fundamental switch in ethos from making good games to making good money, and part of that is emulating Nintendo's successes. It's why Peter Moore was forced out because he wasn't prepared to take them down that path.
Next week there is the biggest Xbox update yet released that is completely changing the "dashboard" which is the front end if you like. It's being replaced by something very similar to the Wii complete with virtual avatars etc. One nice change is being able to install games to the HDD so they have faster loading times.

I wonder if Microsoft will ever release a handheld console like a DS or PSP?
Surprised they haven't as yet to be honest.
