Just away to get internets in our new house, is there anyone we should avoid?
We are looking at a few deals at the minute just weighing up our options but I know some ISPs have been the mad sux. Capping speeds, downtime etc.
thanks lovelies

Virgin Media are starting to threaten people for using peer to peer sites so I wouldnt use them, any ISP that wants to invade customers' privacy is one to avoid.

If Virgin get away with this, then so will other ISPs.
This may just be the start of a big change for the way people obtain their stuffz.

Awaiting letter from Virgin~ Will be ringing them straight up to cancel unless they send me written apology of course. As should everyone else who gets a letter just to show strength of feeling on this.

Funny this is, Virgin's own newsgroup server has a longer retention period for illegal downloads than any other free news server I've ever seen.
Most tend to be around 4 days, but I've seen stuff that's over a week old on Virgin.
But because newsgroups don't count as peer to peer, that is currently excluded from the legal threats that Virgin are issuing on behalf of the industry.

Out of interest, apart from Virgin, what really good internet is out there?
I remember Pipex being up there, but since they got bought over (merged?) ive not heard anything.

It's a difficult one, I don't think there is such a thing as a perfect provider anymore.
I use Nildram which is ok I guess. I haven't got any complaints about them anyway.

Pipex used to be great:(
Nildram has been good since dialup days from reviews etc, never actually used their service.
Other than that it's just the monster companies left afaik, that all offer increasingly worsening deals..Tiscali, Virgin, AOL, BT, etc..
Every new announcement from Virgin is about the service actually getting worse...

I think we're probably going to go with BT... Other than that line problem I had, I haven't had a great deal of problems with them... AOL though has by far been the best ISP I've had though in terms of reliability - considering all the horror stories.
I've seen a bit of ranting about Virgin in the past, enough that I don't want to go near them :S

I read on the interwebz where apparently I get 72 virgins if I kill some or all of you. Maybe just one of you. Can't remember exact details.

im on sky atm, and i have to admit after terrible initial problems, my connection has been spot on at around 8meg speed for 4 months now with decent quality and never any downtime.
