Stats will gain ok while you train, then once you hit skillcap you can ping-pong them like pre aos.

I'm making a character on Angel Island as well. I got tired of all of the elf crap that just came out and sick of 1-hit kills.
I'm up to GM eval and almost GM wrestling. Anyone have tips for getting some money together to buy regs with which to train magery?

Most of us got bored of the crappy pvp balance on AI.
Some of their ideas are great, but there are so many inconcistancies, such as the flagrant abuse of DP, because the shard has pub 15 poison rules, but pub 25 cure rates.
It can take 4-5 pots to cure DP and the cure spell has a tiny chance.
Arch cure is still 4th circle so takes far too long to cast.
There are gay pets that cast, run and hit with DP.. and of course being on foot with a 150 ping means they will kill you and there's not really much you can do about it, as most tamers are 5 skill with taming/lore.
If the controller has hiding the pets also can hide...
It was a nice idea, but ultimatly Adam isn't a PvPer and doesn't understand the need for balance, his shard is focused more towards those kind of players who wished they could be just like Belan, or the American ping PvPer who abuses every possible weakness in the balance to win at all costs.
The struggle to get set up just isn't worth it because once you are set up there's no real point in playing anymore under such a mis-managed pvp system.
Oh, if only I had the income to do a dedicated server, I'd re-create publish 25 in all its glory. While some people look to Pre-AoS as their saviour ruleset, personally I feel publish 25 was probably the most balanced UO had been, with a few tweaks it could be perfect... but then I'm biased.

That's the griefy thing, UK based hosting companies are so expensive compared to their US counterparts.
It's about 100 a month for a basic rack, but more likely about 150 for one that can do the job and have the required bandwidth.
I'm actually going to investigate it a bit more and see what our Nordic brethren offer, the main problem is bandwidth, a good stable PR server needs a good connection, UK home user stuff just doesn't cut it because of our god awful 256kb upload caps.
That would allow for roughly 20-25 lag free users, but there isn't those kinds of problems up in the snowy wastes of Sweden and Finland so I'm guessing costs will be lower.
The other problem of course is that most people simply don't like playing AoS free shards, I can't blame them though, the majority of them are dire because AoS was hideously unbalanced before I got my hands on it. I'm not claiming pub25 was perfect, but it could have been if I'd had more freedom in the decisions taken for it.
It's too much of an outlay for something that may not even get off the ground, but it's a lovely pipe dream.

I'd like a good pub 25 shard as the most likely freeshard I would stick to for more than a day, but same problem as ever. I can't be bothered starting over. No need for uber equipment was a draw for the pre aos type shards, but if you made it easy to do a char on AOS shard you lose a lot of the purpose to playing (money). Even if you don't play for money, it's the focal point of all pvp in recent times, and if there isn't a pure objective I figure most people wouldn't even bother. This is why I still play EA shards, because I have characters and money that I can play 30 mins a day no worries.

Yeah Oz, those things you mention are core factors any player run shard has to take into consideration, simply because it's not an OSI shard.
This whole thing has got me thinking seriously about it, I think I'll write up some design docs. If I were to set something like this up, I'm fairly confident in my ability to draw a playerbase to it. It just has to be done just right or it'll all go to shit quickly, evidenced by the massive amount of shitty AOS PR shards out there.

Getting a player base wouldn't be a problem, as soon as generations of fans hear they might get to fight I-C again they will come like a swarm
