The year United sold Beckham, he'd lost his place on the right....to a centre forward(Solskjaer), and United were playing a lot better becouse of it. I wonder if United might have done a lot better for the two years after Beckham left if Solskjaer hadn't got the career-finishing injury. I'm pretty sure Fergie only agreed to sell him becouse Solkjaer was playing so impressively in his position.

Not sure what i'm trying to say really...As much as I rate Beckham, he was the weakest player all round of that United midfield (Keane/Scholes/Giggs)

I disagree, I thought he was on par with Giggs who was in his prime.

i have to disagree too, and for somebody who really doesnt give beckham alot of credit, he brought ALOT to that united midfield, setpiece delivery alone scored/created united as many goals as each other individual created with there own unique ability. setpieces are so vital in todays game and nobody can really match his dead ball play.

It was just a great midfield, certainly hasn't been bettered anywhere since that i'm aware of.

I don't see how you can claim Beckham was anywhere near as important as Scholes or Keane though, Giggs is debatable I guess.

I think we all know the real reason he was sold was the typical alex ferguson falling out that saw many of UTD's best players leave while still in their prime.

yeh id have to agree with zim there, i think he was on his way out regardless of solsjaers form. Several other "big" attitudes certainly didnt get away with it, beckham was prolly even more hated by fergie than those!

i actually would have said giggs and keane rather than scholes, i mean i rated scholes in that era, but giggs gave you that ability to get past a man and take him out of the game, and credit to scholes but the majority of his praise is for his goals from midfield, similar to how i see fat frank, he's a great finisher, but apart from that parts of his game are only solid @ best.

lol @ scholes comment, honestly. I guess it ranks alongside your Carrick comments though.

Zim the only one who was still in their prime was Stam, imo, and he was hugely missed, wasn't replaced until Vidic. Imagine those two together.

I agree with you about players being sold due to fallings out, but most were past their prime. Beckham was missed, Van Nistelrooy was(is?) missed, but both were past their prime, or at the apex. Fergie tends to humour idiot players if they're valuable enough to the team...ie Ronaldo at present.
