Thanks for posting that Kokane, one of my biggest regrets about closing Legacy25 was that it really wasn't a failure. We'd gone past the initial playerbase boom and come out the otherside with about 90-100 active prime time players.
Like you said the major reason it shut down was that if it didn't I would have killed myself trying to maintain it, it was simply too much work for one man and my promised funding had dissapeared. I could have afforded to keep it going but I would have had to add incentives for players to donate, which, although I had a few ideas, was something I never wanted to have to do. Plus I would have had to devote my entire life to the project, I was already pulling 48 hour sessions and surviving on baked beans and 4 hours sleep.
It really doesn't bother me to see people putting the server down like that, aside from the accusation that I would go to other servers and advertise.. that kind of thing really disgusted me, and we had mroe than one person advertising Defiance on Legacy!
I had planned to continue working on it offline and bring it back to life this year, but it simply won't happen.
I will however be publicing every script used on Legacy in a week or so, it's a big task as I haven't touched the code or even c# for about 8 months, it'll also be a big task for anyone to incorporate given people are using 2.0 now I believe.
I won't be replying to that thread, there's really no need. From what I remember Sunny is a trammel spawn anyway who was always more concerned with getting luck to work right than spellcasting timers or special attacks, so his opinion runs like water off my back.
I do however appreciate people standing up for Legacy, she was a fine server and would have had a long and succesfull life ahead of her had circumstances been different

YOUR GAMES ARE THE GAYIST THING EVER ACRCADEN CRUSADE WAS EPIC FAIL AND SO WAS ANY THING U MADE WITH A P THE REST WAS JUST FLAT OUT GAY U DONT DESERVE LIFE NO U DONT DESERVE ANYTHING U ARE JUST A GAY MORON WHO NEEDS TO GET A LIFE
Its a neglected bastard child of XLX that is supposed to be Fel only but has Malas and Ilshenar simply because XLX & Light were clueless about launching an AOS shard and merely did so to keep up with then rivals UOGamers.Calix wrote:Kokane does Defiance AoS have Samurai/ML shit added? I thought it did but if it doesn't it might actually be playable.
That's my theory anyhow

Nope it doesnt have SL or later. It's really publish 25 based with some minor things available from SE etc. At the minute I can only think of Pigments being the only SE+ feature. They can only be obtained through donating but some people have ones from when they used to spawn.
It has a lot of things I dislike but its the closest thing to Legacy and the PvP is probably better than the rest of the AOS servers out there because they are either
a) SE or later
2) Have trammel facets in which most of the players reside
I really only returned because I got access to a finished char that I could pvp on, which is all I do now really.
I'm trying to get people to play more in factions etc, but the guild I have atm has quite the better players and seems to be off putting to some of the less succesful ones.
They've only just completed the task of moving all houses out of malas in a bid to bring pvp back to Fel and Bucs den etc, which has worked quite well.
Malas is a no housing zone and Luna npc's reomved and soon I think its going to be removed entirely, except for Doom access being moved elsewhere.
Well thats a nail in the coffinRoxin wrote:Hehe

I remember when I first read the homepage for the shard, I immediatley thought it was some bullshit scam playing to peoples imagination, because of how perfect it seemed.
Interesting that you will publish all the scripts... Are you going to sell them for cash or merely release them anywhere and everywhere? May I ask where if you have decided?
Do you still have the old saves?
If you plan on selling for cash, perhaps rethinnk and let it be released for nothing and hopefully it may just spawn a lot of Legacy clones and just maybe, one of them will be perfect or work?
I doubt it would work simply because I doubt there is an Admin out there capable of running it probably. Actually I just thought of a possibilty.
I'll ask your permission to quote you and reply in that topic on defiance.
May I?
Would you guys play on one if it actually worked?
Would you even staff one if it worked and all the burdens were lightened, like funding and man power?
Sorry for the burst of questions hehe
Aye, it's all it needs really. More players would fix a lot of things tbh.Detritus Delacey wrote:I would play Defiance AOS if there was a much larger playerbase.
I forgot to mention, there is a skillball handout on Sunday.
This never happens on AOS and it has happened only last week, where newly made accounts received skillballs that only the first char on the account could use, to help celebrate DFI moving to 64x bit.
Not many new ppl came to AOS so Sunny has declared another full handout on Sunday between 1pm and 1am I think, not sure on the times.
I think you sould all log a couple of clients in just to have chars at least.
I'd also like to mention an event they have there that reminds me of the Arena only a bit more open...
It's another reason why we need more players aswell.
Its called the Pentagram and what it is is a pentagram at bucs den. When it's active a system message is broadcast that it will be ready in 10 minutes.
When the 10 mins are up, a player must stand on it, alone for a total of 60 consecutive seconds to receive anything from 13 gold to a major arty.
Huge range of prizes but not enough people are on to really fight for it.
Its usually the same group just standing around waiting for the timer to count down, so instead a staff member spawns a lot of monsters to substitute real action.
There has been some brilliant fights over it in the beginning but it just seems flawed at the moment.
Still... more players would mean more pvp I guess.
Sorry, didn't mean to sound like a DFI promoter.
I'd play on a decent p25 server if it was run by the right people. Legacy was the best attempt so far of course, but there's still so much more that could have been done to improve it, a lot of which Noxin had planned for the future before he got burned out on it.
Unfortunately I don't think there's many mature/responsible/capable people left interested in UO at all, let alone an era that's associated(incorrectly) with a bad period in UO history.
Rest of these fags are wow addicts anyway, and well, Darkfall is going to take my UO fever away if it ever comes out.
I was playing on OSI the other week finding myself wishing hard for p25 back though, although when I think about it one thing current OSI doesn't have - which freeshards will never have either - is the quality and quantity of playerbase, so it would take a seriously special effort to get a shard just right, which I doubt we'll see from someone who's just picking up Noxin's code.

I'll be sorting through them and putting them up on my PERSONAL HOMEPAGE, I'll link you when they're up. It's a fair bit of work going through them after so much time. RunUO being open source, so will the scripts be.
It'll be interesting to see if any full clones appear.
The saves are gone now, the copy I am sorting through is the stuff I had left on my development server, which should be basically a full copy just without the accounts.
Feel free to quote me, personally I don't have the time right now to play. Staffing I really don't know, I'd consider it but it's not something I've really thought about much, I kind of left the entire emulated UO "scene" once I closed Legacy.
I think like you say, the main problem with someone doing a copy of legacy is that they wouldn't have the same understanding of what it's all about. Replicating publish 25 was a passion for me, I didn't want to see the great work done lost forever because EA decieded they wanted ninjas and elves. Funny how lately they've been repairing some aspects of publish 25 that they broke in order to appease people.
Anyway, the scripts et al will probably be up next weekend, I can't make any promises though, it's a time consuming process and I have other stuff on my plate too.

Well thanks for providing a server like no other and far more enjoyable than any other "version" of UO. The majority of those who played it loved it and I'm sure they thank you for the experience (silently lol)
I'm sure some attempts will be made to clone the shard... I might even try myself at some point.

try this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GRt09m-OGJo for a clearer look at the new client. Bearing in mind it's pre-alpha and he's riding an ethy you can't see.
Dunno if anyone picked up on it, but Tug has said he'll be updating UOA to play with it.
KR breaks UOA, but so do most of the patches, it's not been done deliberately to stop us using it, that's just the way it happens.
