not being funny...but i know a lad who is about to go to juvinile prison...why the hell should the taxpayer pay for that little tramp to get TV, food, games etc when he has been a thug and a complete asshole for the past 5 years. i agree with villa...national service...it would sort out tearaways like the lad i know..because if they gob off/hit their superior then they get punished and its not just a fine or two its hard manual labour or sometimes its as simple as lugging a shell around (which is bloody hard i have tried

) national service should be brought back as it would teach a lot of younger people proper respect for others around them and their cosy little worlds they live in

I am in the military and national service is a shit idea. I like what I do but I choose to do it, I can't think of anything more insulting than the idea you MUST do some period in the military, it's wrong in every aspect of modern culture.

And taxpayers don't theoretically pay for rehab, as the result of rehab should turn over more than cost, which is the basis of justifying it.

No yoru point is valid, i wouldnt want to fight and why should I? I don't support most of the reasons this country has gone to war in recent times, so why the fuck should I go to war over it? Those who do, good on them, I give them my support, its not their fault, some fuckint idiot makes them go to war. We're told reasons, we're supposedly told by certain people theres evidence, yet where is this evidence?

I wasn't asking for a fanfare for our servicemen when they get rotated out of theatre.
Was merely comparing the way our nation treats them, compared to the way the US treats their returning personnel.

In actuality, I do think a fanfare and celebration would have been a touch tactless, as it would imply we went somewhere and achieved a victory.
I don't agree in the slightlest with the reasons given for us to go and invade Iraq in the role of America's lapdog, but I do however respect those men & women in uniform who have to obey this call to arms.

Seriously?

National service I agree is perhaps a good thing for those that fuck up, or have no interest in education or pursing a career, but why should those that work be punished? That is perhaps a weird and slightly fucked opinion, but I just don't get it? I went to the roughest school in my area, which was public fyi, and still came out alright, so?

What I mean is, there are people that will work from primary school to secondary, there are people that dont regardless of how good the education system is.

Why fuck over those that are prepared to work, for those who simply don't give a fuck? I don't know about your school, but haven grown up in both a shit school, and a reasonable good school,which has now turned to shite, I have seen both sides of the spectrum.

I had fucking wankers pissing me off my whole time at school, giving me shit for actually giving a shit about my work, by the time I actually reached exam time(15/16), I couldn't give a fuck.

My point is, you either study or you dont.

Why should those who actually fucking studied in school suffer for the wankers that didn't give a fuck and wasted peoples time?

its called being a soldier, its part of the job.

National service = have no choice.
Sign up = Do it cos u chose to sign up and take everything that comes with it.

It scares me to imagine the day when we get attacked on our own shores again.

Would it be worth fighting for then?

Do you think our military would be able to repel a serious and concentrated attack?

I know for a fact that our military is one of if not the best trained and motivated in the world, but i also know we`d get our arse`s handed to us quite solidly if we came under attack simply because it has become so small in recent years. Where we excel now is specialist tasks. we have the best airborn recce equipment in the world, we have the best counter terrorist units and various others. But we don`t have the size to endure anything longer than a small skirmish.

So would you naysayers simply give up and roll over to be fucked up by Jonny Foreigner? Or would you pick up a weapon and fight back? Regardless you`d be next to useless in a battle as you`d have no training.

Now faced with occupation would you accept help from the US? Fucking right you would, and they`d be coming in droves. Thats the reason we go to the aid of others in their hours of need. Simply because they are our allies and they need us, and when we need them we KNOW they`ll come to our aid.
