No, it's one of a line of F/A18 Hornets, not sure who's they are but both US Marines and the RAAF are flying them here.
The F22 is based at Nellis AFB as well, so we often see them taxing and taking off throughout the day, i'll try and get a pic today if i see one.
Villa wrote:If so, what kind of airbase is this with so many differing types of aircraft ?
Alll these pics are taken at the USAF's Nellis AFB "The home of the fighter pilot" It's where air forces from around the world ( well from NATO and its allies ) come to practice all manner or air combat techniques in an exercise called RED FLAG. Most of the pilots i know say this is harder and more dangerous than real combat ( these are often Gulf War I & II vets so they know what combat is like ) Obviously the weapons we use here are not live, but they penalty for getting shot down and then ridiculed by your peers is worse than death for 99% of all fighter pilots.
The nearest thing i can use for comparison is Top Gun. In that film they use the US Navy's Figter Weapons School at Miramar Marine Corps Air Station, Ca. But the idea is very similar.
For a better idea about Red Flag read this link

Another pic on this link of some of the guys i work with.

Was talking to Villa in IRC and decided to upload a pic of Nellis AFB.
Obviously i don't have teh equipment for a decent photo, so i used Google earth for this one.
Gooogle was saying that was taken from about 12,000ft so you should get an idea of the scale. Also right in the middle of the flight line there is a slightly larger aircraft, having zoomed in and looked at it i can tell you its a KC135 Stratotanker ( A full sized airliner [Boeing 707] converted to inflight re--fuelling operations )
Just looked at the pic again, right at the SW edge of it you can see a line of Tornado GR's, which is what i work on. This pic was actuallly taken during a quiet period of operations it seems as there are spare slots along the flight line, normally they are all full to bursting.

Look in the 3rd last pic, all 3 are way closer there, infact looking at them all 3 are closer than the 1 you say has hit the wing. I spoke to the pilots after that particular flight, they said they had to stay that close or they`d loose sight of the Tristar. You can kinda understand it looking at the density of the cloud. They actually use the wing tip of the Tristar to navigate of, saves them plotting their own course across the Atlantic I guess.
